Noirin Mooney was born in Co. Galway and quite early on moved to Co. Clare where her paintings are rooted. Now settled in the Burren she has devoted herself to painting.
Her works are admired and collected worldwide. Some of her most memorable exhibitions have been in Altmaar, Holland, Toronto and Guelph in Canada, Belfast, Dublin, Galway and Limerick.
Painting mostly in oils, her themes are relatively conventional-landscape, the human figure ( especially musicians ) and animals. Although not specifically abstract her subject matter is not immediately defined, but tends to emerge and come closer to you and subvert your normal perception.
Noirin is definitely a risk taker in paint. In her own words, “I work around the theme loosely building up texture and colour thereby hoping to touch on the essence of the subject beyond mere form.” |
